By Bruce Hogan

To begin with there are lots of steps you can take to help you along the way of becoming a pilot and you can refer to these steps as secrets in the sense that many people don't give them much thought.

Secret #1: To do your research into flight training schools and compare the cost and what you will get for that. In addition, count on spending a little more than what you are quoted in case you want to purchase extra lessons or flying time. Better to plan on a little more than not having enough. There are two specific parts to your Pilots course. The first is the academic or theory part and the second is the practical. You may find a local college that offers the academic part and this may be a little less expensive than taking with the flying school.

Secret #2: Make sure you check out the credibility of the various flight training schools in your area. You not only want one reasonably priced but also one that has high caliber instructors. Your teacher should be knowledge and in addition care about his job. If he does not enjoy instructing then you are not going to get the best that even he has to offer. Ask other graduates about the various instructors located at the school you are contemplating.

Secret #3: Preparation of schedule to include your instruction. It is important that you stay consistent with your training. Do not let it become sporadic where one week you go to class then the next week you don't. Design a structured time plan for your training and adhere to it as closely as possible. If you juggling time now before your classes start then you run the risk of not being able to complete your course in a timely fashion.

Secret #4: Make the decision to put a thorough effort into your learning. Prepare for classes, complete homework assignments and study constantly. It is not the easiest course in the world but by no means the hardest either. If you apply yourself with good learning habits then you should have no trouble being successful.

Secret #5: There will be times that you will become discouraged or perhaps bored with one segment of your instruction. Discipline yourself to put as much effort into this segment as you do with the ones you enjoy. If you get discouraged just keep telling yourself what your goal is and how much you want it. Don't give up, its just a hurdle you need to get past.

Secret #6: Do not convince yourself that they is an easy way to take the course. It is going to take hard work and structured learning. There are no shortcuts and you must learn every aspect of your course that the FAA has outlined in their rules and regulations. Then you must pass the tests.

Following these simple secrets will take you a long way into becoming a successfil Pilot. Once you have accomplished this you will not regret the hard work, time and money that you have invested. - 33387
